Two of my sons have ADHD.

I'd like to give you a view into any given day in the life of a person with ADHD
That would be me.
If you've ever been into a casino or an arcade game room. you'll have had a slight peek, then.
(If not, how about a grand finale at a fireworks show)
Think of all the lights, movement and noise.
The people laughing, talking, walking, the game sounds and flashing lights... you get the picture.
All that lovely stimuli.
That is what is going on in my brain. And I assure you that it is rather constant.
Picture, that, you are trying to make your way from one end of that brain to the other...AND pay attention to one task.
You wish that you had an ON/OFF switch, but by-golly you weren't given one.
If this doesn't do it for you, how about this:
You are very busy trying desperately to finish a task. Someone or something (or both) is constantly interrupting you.
One might become annoyed...even frustrated.
Imagine that, that person, is you.
You are the one who interrupts yourself. And you have no control over it.
You wish you were given an ON/OFF switch....
If I had a way to do this shoe-tying demo that I do for "normal" (a say that totally tongue-in-cheek) people as a way to show you how it is for us ADHDers, you'd have this great visual.
The best I can do is to describe it.:
I lace up a shoe that looks every bit like the standard issue way most folks would start out. Then it takes on a life of it's own. Most people will ask for a slow-mo demo...so they can catch just what the heck they just saw. To which I oblige.
Regardless, it is the outcome that is the stunner.
Surely this odd performance must result in an abnormal finale. But no! it looks exactly the same as if you had done it.
What this does, is to outline that:
1. We might not appear to do it that same but we will and can come up with similar results.
2. Have faith, we will arrive at the same destination...we just have a different path to get there.
3. Have patience, we are trying as hard as you to achieve the same goals, we just have a whole heck of allot more hurdles.
BTW, I realize that there are many ways to tie laces. Keep in mind my family members only knew of one method, I learned from them. I coined my own...unaware of any others.
